This week, the report from the 2023 Joint Arctic Search and Rescue Event was published. The Joint Arctic SAR Event and workshop was held from March 15-16, in Reykjanesbær, Iceland, as a collaboration between AECO and SAR authorities.
The 2023 event gathered 70 participants with the aim of turning findings into actions. The event is unique in bringing together a broad group of experts from the cruise industry, the SAR community, and other relevant stakeholders. Following up previous SAR events and exercises, this year’s event focused on how to best possibly turn findings into actions.
It is important that lessons learned do not end up on the shelf, but are reviewed by operators, SAR authorities and AECO. Therefore, this report introduces a series of recommended action points based on the findings from this years and previous years’ reports.
The Annual Joint Arctic Search and Rescue Event is organized by the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO), the Icelandic Coast Guard (ICG) and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre North Norway (JRCC NN). The overall objective is to enhance safety and preparedness in the Arctic maritime domain through strengthened collaboration between the Arctic expedition cruise industry, SAR entities and authorities.
