New site guidelines for Sallyhamna and Fulglehuken

December 27th, 2017

AECO has developed site specific guidelines for two new sites in Svalbard: Sallyhamna and Fuglehuken. These guidelines, developed with funding from the Svalbard Environmental Protection Fund, will be used by AECO members to ensure that flora, fauna and cultural heritage are not disturbed during visits.

With this latest addition, AECO now has site guidelines for 21 locations in Svalbard (click on map below to see details). In five of these locations, the use of site specific guidelines is mandatory for all cruise operators that wish to make landings. Similar requirements will enter into force for nine additional sites (including Sallyhamna and Fuglehuken) once the proposed management plan for the national parks in West Spitsbergen is approved and implemented.

The site guidelines are available to AECO members: https://www.aeco.no/guidelines/site-guidelines/
